Heineman says veterans' home needs to be replaced

Posted: 03/27/13 09:05

Governor Dave Heineman says the 126 year old veterans' home in Grand Island needs to be replaced. Governor Heineman says there is policy in place that requires transparency and bids need to be taken if a project is over 50-thousand dollars. This is a 100-million dollar project. Several other cities have shown interest in bidding for the facility which raises a lot of concern for residents of Grand Island who now fear they may lose their job. Governor Heineman agrees with the bidding process as it gives other cities a chance to compete but Grand Island remains in the "driverís seat" as the veterans' home has been located there for many years.†
