Powers comments on weekend storm damage

Hastings Mayor Vern Powers got his first look at the tree damage in Hastings, caused by high winds on Saturday night. The first priority is to clear the streets for normal vehicle traffic and then clear the parks, where, just at Chautaqua Park alone, almost every tree has limbs down or was knocked down completely. It will take city crews weeks to get it all cleaned up, and they're asking for the public to its part. The City Landfill will be open its' regular hours and will allow the citizens of Hastings to bring their storm damaged limbs and trees to the landfill at no charge through Saturday, June 21st. Out of City residents will be charged the normal fee. The terrace pick up will take some time to complete, due to the scope of the damage. Citizens are encouraged to transport their limbs, if at all possible.
