Hastings resident, Shirley J. Palmer, 81, passed away Monday, December 4, 2017, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.
Services will be Saturday, December 9, 2017; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings with Pastor Greg Lindenberger officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Visitation will be Friday, December 8, 2017; 1:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. with family present 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.
Shirley was born December 2, 1936, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Herbert L. & Goldie M. (McKinzie) Gilbert. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1954. Shirley married James Palmer on August 16, 1955.
Shirley was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a Girl Scout leader, on a bowling league, and member of quilt group. Shirley enjoyed woodworking, needle work, and traveling.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kathy S. Palmer; brother, William Cawley; and sisters, Doris Melody and Helen Matthews.
